I found this powerpoint both useful and interesting. I grew up in a home with a father that spoke english and spanish, but my mother only spoke english, therefore English was pretty much the only thing spoken in the house. I know the basics of Spanish but never fully learned it. With that being said, I have learned many different cliche and metaphiorcial sayings in English, but when trying to translate them into Spanish word for word, it doesn't make sense. The same thing occured when my father would try and translate different Spanish sayings as well for me to understand in english. Since I knew the basics of spanish, i could translate bits and peices of them, but they did not make any sense. With this powerpoint, I realized that word for word translations of cliche saying across different languages do not always make sense. It is the context of the words within the sentences that matter in order to convey the metaphorical message, not so much the diction. This was a very useful powerpoint to learn some of the culture of both English and Spanish based on cliche sayings.
